My Story

Carmen Inguanzo is first a humanitarian woman who is passionate about helping those in need by creating fund raisers and advocating for those being treated unfairly. She is the proud mother of three sons and committed to her loving husband of twenty-two years. She is fully bilingual and currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree for English and Creative Writing, with a minor in English Language Literature at Southern New Hampshire University. She is also founder of Edits by Carmen. Though her education took a pause for many years, she decided she would persevere in the honor roll throughout the remainder of her education. Her determination to succeed academically, currently landed her as a chosen member of Sigma Tau Delta-Alpha Phi Beta, International English Honor Society, conferring distinction for high achievement in English language and literature.

Nine years ago, upon her son’s autism diagnosis, she found purpose within her journaling as she battled with accepting her son’s condition. Her lifelong love for writing ignited when she took her first memoir writing workshop at Gotham Writing Workshops on April 2011, and since then has participated in ten others, including writing workshops at Hunter College and Columbia University in New York City. She was also selected twice to participate in week-long VONA (Voices of Our Nations) Writing Workshops; one at the University of Berkeley, California with Mrs. Elmaz Abinader, and the other at the University of Miami, Florida with Mrs. Reyna Grande. She has workshopped numerous amounts of personal and academic essays, as well as Dr. Egli Colon Stephen’s book manuscript in the process of publication throughout her writing and editing career.

In pursuit of her love for writing, she primarily writes non-fiction, as well as poetry, and is currently working on an erotic novel when she’s not writing personal essays on her blog. She’s an avid reader who loves to read memoirs, poetry, fiction and whatever she can get her hands on.

She is a devoted advocate for autism and mental health awareness. She not only strives in being the voice of her ten-year-old son who is completely non-verbal and all others affected by autism, but also aims to be the voice of those suffering from mental health illnesses. This passion for mental health advocacy is fueled by the suicide of her best friend and her own personal struggles. She blogs candidly and unapologetically, sharing her own journey with the hopes of helping end the stigma behind mental illnesses.
